Financial and Conference Support

Each department has a number of assistantship positions that are generally awarded to that department's graduate students on the basis of merit. The salary for assistantships is determined and paid by the state. The responsibilities, which carry around a weekly workload of 16-20 hours, include teaching support for undergraduate and graduate courses, research support to faculty members, and administrative support for the various activities of the department. For detailed information on assistantship positions, please contact the relevant academic department.

BAP Researcher Positions

The Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Fund (BU/BAP) awards research projects to individual faculty members or groups of faculty members. One graduate student researcher per project may be funded within the budget of these projects. For information on such positions can be obtained from individual faculty members.

A number of foundations, NGOs, and other public and private institutions provide fellowships or financial support to graduate students. A partial list is provided below. For further information,  please contact directly organizations of your choice.

Institute Support for Research-related Travel and Conference Expenses (CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE)

Whenever funds are available, the Institute provides financial support for research-related travel and for travel to national and international conferences to present paper. For the 2019 calendar year budgetary restrictions put in place in 2017 continue, and, therefore, the Institute is unable to provide travel funding for graduate students until further notice. Travel funding will resume as soon as budgetary restrictions are lifted.

Travel and Conference Support from Other Sources

The Boğaziçi University Foundation (BÜVAK), the Boğaziçi University Alumni Association (BÜMED), the Boğaziçi University Research Fund (BAP), and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) provide travel and conference support for graduate students. For further information, please contact the relevant institutions. Support provided by BAP is project-based (i.e. travel and conference support is provided to graduate students who are part of an ongoing BAP project), and application for graduate student travel grants need to be made by the faculty member responsible for the project.
